The Duduk, made out of aged apricot wood, is an historic Armenian traditional woodwind instrument. It has now been made famous as it was featured in the Dune movies scored by Hans Zimmer. The sound of it is meditative and haunting, sounding similar to an oboe and saxophone. The reed of the Duduk is hand made from reed cane and requires preparation with water to make it come alive again by producing sound. The Duduk tells an ancient story reaching back possibly 1500 years. To this day you can hear the ancestors’ cries and teachings through it. This Kontakt instrument is mostly 192kHz, 32 bit, 2.82GB featuring main and also experimental articulations that are expanded in extended chromatic scales. The uniqueness comes from the way the Duduk was recorded and further explored in the snapshots.

DOJO: Combat Synth KONTAKT

Dojo is a sample based synth developed for Kontakt. It is inspired by the principles of Japanese martial arts, which are translated and applied to creative sound design. Dojo features 2 main instruments: the Kumite synth and the Kata synth. The Kumite synth is inspired to the concept of fighting an opponent in karate; it is characterized by an aggressive sound, based on mangled analog synths, spectral re-synthesis of organic sources, orchestral phrases, tempo-synced rhythms, plucks, deep cinematic impacts and percussions, textures and horns. The Kumite synth is based on a custom-scripted modulation engine to create punchy phrases, hybrid orchestral cues, pulses, dreamy arpeggios and deep underscore movements. The Kata synth is inspired to the concept of “pattern of movements” in karate. We have recorded cello, double bass, viola, violin, crystal baschet, orchestral woodwinds, metallophones, piano and keys, jetè and staccatos, designed organic sounds and much else. All of them can be morphed, filtered, distorted and animated via an XY pad, to create evocative melodies, evolving atmospheres, detailed textures and underscore sequences.

Nordic Folk Strings KONTAKT

Nordic Folk Strings is a Kontakt library based on tagelharpa, the traditional three-strings instrument from Scandinavia. It’s a collaborative project with singer and tagelharpa expert Alessandra Cognetta (Omen, Hellen), who has recorded the whole source material. Nordic Folk Strings features 2 models of tagelharpa, Bass Tagelharpa and Standard Tagelharpa. The former features a darker, lower sound whereas the latter presents a more typically Vikingreminiscent tone. Both have been sampled at different time ranges, with different kind of rhythms (straight and triplets) , different tunings and tones. Rather than sampling long sustained notes, in Nordic Folk Strings we have sampled rhythmic movements, in order to preserve the raw authenticity of the tagelharpa. The movements loops are tempo synched to the DAW and can be combined creatively by using our custom scripted Rhythmic Legato and the innovative Movements Sequencer.
