Produced by Nick Phoenix, Quantum Leap Solo Violin is a virtuoso solo violin recorded at Remote Control Productions, a film score facility in Santa Monica, California run by veteran film composer Hans Zimmer and home to the scores of many of toda’s top films. Quantum Leap Solo Violin includes 5 passes of true legatos sampled intervals, Legato soft, legato forte, expressive legato, portamento and fast legato/ trill/ run. Quantum Leap Solo Violin features round-robin up and down bowing on most articulations and can handle very fast playing and live trill playing with ease. All of the basic articulations were sampled as well as various expressive articulations, vibrato styles, and non vibrato. Quantum Leap Solo Violin has a sound and character ideally suited for film and classical work.

The EastWest/Quantum Leap Hollywood Solo Violin virtual instrument is a library designed to work together seamlessly with the Hollywood Orchestra series. While it includes the same number of microphone positions, and many of the same features, there are a few key differences that are outlined below. The microphone configuration is designed for solo instruments, as opposed to a full orchestra. Instead of the surround and vintage surround microphone positions used in the Hollywood Orchestra series, the Hollywood Solo Violin supplements the close and mid microphone positions with vintage alternatives. In the Hollywood Solo Violin, dynamics and vibrato depth are linked together on the Mod Wheel (CC1), whereas the Hollywood Orchestra series offers independent control of dynamics and vibrato depth. A new type of Legato instrument is available (Legato Sustain) that combines the legato and sustain articulations into one sample layer, allowing for more continuity over the duration of a note.

STRINGPOOL has 2.5GB of beautifully played clean and brutally textured violin bowing with BPM synced modwheel speed control – play a note and move the modwheel to bow faster or slower, push down on your keyboard for aftertouch controlled volume swelling. The design process of STRINGPOOL meant forcing virtuoso violinist Sophia Bartlette into many painful days of tortuous sampling (nobody really enjoys sampling – don’t ever let them make you think otherwise). While they quietly slurped coffee Sophia teased hours of beautifully lyrical long bowed single notes from her 200-year instrument. For every note, four different bowing speeds with a hint of vibrato. From these hours of recordings, they created hundreds of seamless, clean single note loops and an alternative set of ‘treated’ samples mangled through tape, valves and malarky. Then it was all poured into a complex Kontakt engine with a simple interface and wealth of expressive possibilities.☼ The true joy of STRINGPOOL is that you can morph in realtime through the BPM synced bowing tempo divisions with the modwheel (or CC1) while also using your keyboard aftertouch (or a CC of your choice) for volume expression to create realistically human violining sounds.

We have sampled the instrument in a large beautiful London concert hall, with many microphones, making up four main, mixable mic perspectives, close mono, close pair, mid room and far room. The difference in perspectives is huge, meaning you can create sounds ranging from a very dry and up close sound, to a singing, naturally reverberated distant violin – as well as any degree between the two.
