It’s time to talk about side signal mindfulness. In my daily work, I hear a lot of audio where everything has been made really wide. It is effortless to make things wide today, but making sure the side signal isn’t too much is another matter. In this video, I’m going through some of my main thinking and plugins I use for cleaning up the side signal, starting with transients, then moving on to EQing. Let’s keep the side signal smooth!

The Dark Side; the darker counterpart to the beautiful virtual instrument, Ambient Minimalism. Ambient Minimalism 2 is a loop and sample-based virtual instrument that can be used to quickly and easily create mysterious and unsettling ambient soundscapes, backing tracks, and cinematic cues. Each instrument patch in Ambient Minimalism 2 contains dozens of loops and one-shots, giving you a wide variety of musical elements and motifs to work with. All instrument patches were recorded in the same key, or designed to work with other dissonant material, so you can mix and match any patches and easily achieve highly musical results. This library features eleven multi-sampled instrument patches including all sorts of dark and creepy pianos, Upright bass, wurlitzer, detuned glass, ominous horns, and others. Using Violent Mid/Side Equalizer we can separate the sounds on the right and left side and the middle of the audio track, then we can change their tunes separatedly. Plugin is most useful for mastering, but it can be used as a traditional equalizer as well. On full frequency spectrum we can make changes in 7 different frequency range, and there’s also a low and a high pass filter.
