So we took the circuitry of the legendary U73b compressor and played around a bit to come up with some seriously satisfying saturation! To start with, we removed our award-winning U73b Compressor plug-in’s compression function. Filters were added, together with the tone control, and, finally, a strong gain control completed the U78 Saturator. We kept the heart and soul of the machine to deliver the beautifully musical tube sound. The result is a saturator that sounds like no other.

Tube Magnetic Saturator is a homemade hardware piece that I built some years ago. DTE is the first library come from that unit. The last evolution includes a discrete input stage, a vintage magnetic-tape head circuit followed by a modern class A tube preamp with 6 valves working at high voltage: 300V. The magnetic-head is digitally controlled to emulate, in analog domain, different speeds and tape printing, while a discrete solid state preamp drives the signal to saturate it.

Tube Saturator 2 is a super accurate circuit simulation of a tube pre-amp with analog EQ, which can be overdriven gently for warming effects, or cranked for fat distortion. Like its predecessor, Tube Saturator, TS-2 is based on circuit simulation techology to capture every nuance of an analog circuit. The circuit consisting of the individual tubes, resistors, and capacitors is converted into a mathematical system of equations which is numerically solved to produce the exact same sound as a real circuit. But while the original consumed large amounts of CPU power, TS-2 is now super efficient. The Saturation section of TS-2 runs about 7x faster than the original and yet the modelling is even more accurate. TS-2 includes the original circuit simulation of the three band Baxandall type EQ as found in many guitar amplifiers.
