If you are using Cubase, then you’ll have the added advantage of studying and exploring all the sampler track presets for ideas for your next virtual instrument. While I love the originality of DIY sampled instruments, Cubase’s presets offer a broad range of creative patches to study and learn from!

When we first started working on a fun ReFill based on the Stylophone we recorded it for sampling purposes: we sampled this little toy note by note. Besides programming a patch that matches the real thing we also tweaked the NNXT to go some extra steps. Some fat funky clavinet-style patches caught us by surprise. While producing the Stylofunk mini track (apart from the loop it´s entirely based on Stylophone samples) we added lots of extra cool stuff to this ReFill: a “single-sample-Rhodes”, a “single-sample-Piano”, a “single-sample-Kalimba” and a lot of other nifty stuff

This classes uses the same system I’ve used for years in my college courses for teaching sound design: Identify and master the 4 main pieces of any synthesizer (or in this case, the sampler), and you will be flying when you first approach any other unit in the future. This system keeps the technical jargon to a minimum and gets you making your own sounds quick.
