Make your beats better with knowledge of the science behind music. Hey guys, this is OJ from the King OJ Music Library, aka “The Music Guy”. In this course, I will be using Logic Pro X 10.4.7 to teach bare bones basic music theory to home-based musicians with no instrument knowledge or proficiency. You will see a beat I kinda just made on the fly as a visual representation of every single term I put on the slide show. Some of the terms covered are just basics like ‘note’, ‘scale’, ‘chord’, ‘meter’, ‘rhythm’, etc. Nothing too complex like counterpoint and all that jazz. Trust me, this will help you to understand how the core techniques work together to make basic songs. That way, you won’t just be blindly just putting together notes on the piano roll or trying to guess about melody, rhythm, etc.
Ready to master chords for just a fraction of the cost of college or other courses? In the second part of the World Music Series, anyone who is just a producer of music with no ability to read sheet music or play an instrument can understand the science behind chords and the sequences of them within a song (also known as a chord progression). There are tons of topics covered here, but only the ones most essential to creating a song that others will appreciate and recognise as part of the genre they’re used to. You’ll learn about basic seventh chords, extended harmonies, tritone substitution/passing chords, the seven different modes, progressions in the most widely used genres, borrowed chords and much more.
Discover the secrets to making amazing music. We’ve cherry-picked the finest tutorials and features from the pages of Computer Music and Future Music – each guide created specifically for the computer-based producer – to bring you this mega-compendium of music theory knowledge.

The term ‘music theory’ is known to strike fear in the hearts of computer musicians, conjuring up images of stuffy classrooms, clusters of confusing musical notes and incomprehensible languages. However, with all this music-making power sitting on your hard drive, there’s no excuse not to fully grasp the fundamental building blocks of music. Yes, you can get by without any theory skills… but how much better would your tracks be if you could program those MIDI notes with gusto and tickle those ivories with purpose?
We’ve all heard of the Pareto Principle right? How 80% of your results are driven by 20% of your efforts. It’s a tidy concept, but how do you figure out the right 20% so you can ditch the dead weight? The answer? By tracking down the uber-successful high achievers in the field, deeply studying what they do, and modelling them. That’s easier said than done, which is why I created this live-stream. Over the past 20 years I’ve been studying the secrets of high performance. That journey has taken me through countless books, coaching programs, workshops and seminars, as well as personal coaching programs. I’ve been able to test, apply, learn, and optimize these processes myself to discover what works and what doesn’t. I’ve also interviewed tons of prolific producers and spent time in the studio with them. I’ve had the opportunity to have off-the-record chats at festivals, and observe them in action. Then, through my Accelerate 1-on-1 coaching program, I’ve had plentiful experience implementing these power habits with my students and tweaking the results.
