    Electronic Sound Issue 122, 2025

    English | 100 pages | PDF | 43 MB

We’re marking the return of The Art Of Noise with this month’s Electronic Sound cover story. Or The Art Of This as they’re now calling themselves. And as well as bringing you the very first interview with the band under this name, we’re bundling the magazine with an exclusive silver vinyl seven-inch featuring the new group’s debut recordings. More than 25 years on from The Art Of Noise’s last studio album, three of the five founding members – JJ Jeczalik, Gary Langan and Paul Morley – are rebooting the group as The Art Of This. They’re in fantastic form for our interview, telling tales from their early days and talking about going back to their avant-garde roots. They discuss Morley’s manifesto for the rejuvenated unit, which also includes former ZZT label manager Ian Peel, and describe themselves as “a sequel” to the original group. They claim there is another offshoot too, The Art Of That, which they say they’ll use “in shadowy ways”. True to form for the oddball electronic maestros, you should expect the unexpected.

    Electronic Sound 119

    English | 100 pages | PDF | 43 MB

This is something special. With an exciting new boxset in the shops any day now, the latest Electronic Sound cover stars are the magnificent Throbbing Gristle and we’re bundling the issue with a limited edition red vinyl seven-inch featuring two previously unreleased TG tracks, including one of the last two recordings the industrial pioneers ever made. We’re looking back over the story of Throbbing Gristle this issue, interviewing the surviving members of the band and others associated with TG. Genesis P-Orridge, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Chris Carter and Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson ripped up all the rules, both sonically and visually, both as a live act and a recording unit. They are widely recognised as the prime movers of industrial music, but their influence and impact stretches way beyond any particular genre. Their early gigs attracted everybody from acid-fried hippies and spotty anarcho-punks to oddball alt-funkateers and hot-wired electronics freaks. There has never been another group even remotely like Throbbing Gristle.

This month’s Electronic Sound cover stars are the effortlessly sublime Air, who are currently on an extensive world tour to promote the deluxe edition of their landmark 1998 album ‘Moon Safari’. Performing inside a huge glass box that looks like something out of Stanley Kubrick’s ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin are playing the album live and in full for the first time – and the result is a major triumph. The French duo speak about the gorgeously languid and exquisitely produced ‘Moon Safari’ in our cover feature, as we assess the influence of a record that hit double platinum sales in the UK and remains an electronic masterpiece to this day. With big bells on.
