We are very proud to present the second instalment of Sufi Ney – a collection containing professionally performed and recorded traditional ney melodies, ready to warm your heart, evoking a sense of musical serenity. Are you ready to take your tracks to the next level and explore the sound world of the ney? About the ney instrument: The ney is a wind instrument made of reed and has a long body with 6 or 7 holes that can be covered with the fingers to create different sounds, resembling a flute. The sound of the ney is very deep, otherworldly, and impressive – it is thought that it represents the human as the symbol of ‘absolute’. The origin of the word ‘ney’ dates back many years, first used in history in Sumerian society. The first neyzen known is Mevlâna J. Rûmî. In 18th-century Istanbul, the majority of the musicians were Mevlevi dervishes. Dervishes also taught their pupils how to play the ney, thus, neyzens have been raised in lineages over the centuries.
