Shakuhachi, the third release in the Virtuoso Japanese Series, is now available as a software instrument in Kontakt format. Singing sonorous intonation, deep yet delicate breathing, and a Japanese sound aesthetic spilling into the periphery: The shakuhachi – an instrument symbolic of Japan – finally joins the Virtuoso Japanese Series family.
The library can naturally be used on its own. But when combined with other titles from the Virtuoso Japanese Series — such as KOTO 13 Version 2, KOTO 17, or SHAKUHACHI — as well as orchestral instruments, KOTO 20 can complete a rich and broad ensemble. As a historical note, the 20-string koto was conceived by Keiko Nosaka in 1969. Initially, this koto was strung with 20 strings, but in later iterations, another string was added to make it a 21-string instrument.

The Koto is a traditional Japanese Instrument. It has 13 strings with movable bridges, Its body is made of paulownia, and the bridges are made of ivory. Strings were originally made of silk but now it is more common to use polyester. Originally derived from the Chinese Zheng, the Japanese Koto appears around 300 B.C and is the national instrument of Japan.
