Ahead of a brilliant new album landing in September, we have the fabulous FAITHLESS on the cover of the latest Electronic Sound, and we’re combining the issue with an exclusive red vinyl seven-inch featuring two almighty groovy tracks remixed by the band’s co-founder Sister Bliss. We think this is one of the most uplifting records we’ve ever released. Bliss and her production partner Rollo have called the album ‘Champion Sound’ and it sees Faithless stepping back into the limelight following the death of their singer Maxi Jazz in 2022. It’s been a very emotional time for the pair, as they note in our in-depth interview, but they have now crafted what is probably the best Faithless long-player since ‘Reverence’, their 1996 debut. The vinyl version is a double set, with the tracks on each of the four sides seamlessly sequenced into exhilarating sonic stories. The lyrics are sharp too, as we’ve come to expect from a group that’s never been afraid to balance the hedonism of club hits like ‘Insomnia’ and ‘God Is A DJ’ with some deep and serious thinking.

Electronic Sound’s final cover star of 2024 is the legendary Jean-Michel Jarre and we are bundling the issue with a limited edition green vinyl seven-inch featuring live versions of ‘Oxygène 4’ and ‘Équinoxe 7’, two of the synth superstar’s biggest and best-known tracks. Jean-Michel Jarre’s impact on electronic music during the last 50 years is huge, not least because of his thrilling live performances. His concerts are the focus of our cover story, with Jarre detailing how his shows have evolved over the decades and guiding us through some of the events he’s most famous for. His picks include Paris, Beijing and Houston, plus his Docklands sets in London in 1988. Expect highly entertaining tales of epic staging and equally epic rainfall, as well as several billion lasers. Remarkably, at the age of 76, there’s no sign of Jarre starting to slow down yet, with more live extravaganzas scheduled for 2025. All power to his VCS 3, we say.

Gary Numan’s ‘Telekon’ album was a stark and futuristic landmark of electronic music, but it was also the sound of a young man struggling to come to terms with his sudden and often overwhelming fame. At one point in 1980, with three records sitting in the UK Top 20, everybody wanted a piece of him. ‘Telekon’ is one of the main topics of our lengthy and detailed conversation with Numan, in which he talks candidly about death threats, stalkers, plane crashes, ghosts and much more, explaining what it was really like to live with the machines while the world lost its head all around him. It’s a hugely entertaining read, both for ardent Numanoids and curious onlookers alike.
