    ..:: Dholki And Pakhawaj ::..

    Indian Drums Vol. 1 features two traditional Indian percussion instruments. The Dholki, a small Dholak, is a two-headed hand drum and mainly a folk instrument. The Dholki is pitched and creates some beautiful tones when hit differently. The Pakhawaj is another two-headed drum and has a more low and mellow tone and is also very rich in harmonics

    The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums.The right hand drum is called a tabla and the left hand drum is called a dagga or baya . Playing technique involves extensive use of the fingers and palms in various configurations to create a wide variety of different sounds and rhythms.Tabla is tuned manually by hitting hammer on the rim. Tabla is the only percussion instrument in the world which has a spectrum consisting of five harmonics with four overtones. The unique feature of the ‘syahi ‘ or the black spot in the middle of the dayan and in the side of bayan is responsible for the wide variety of syllables .In 1920 the great scientists C.V. Raman and S. Kumar called it ‘Psycho acoustics’ Common strokes such as “Ta”, “Tin”, and “Na” are strongly pitched resonant strokes ( Tuned manually by Tabla Player) whereas “Tun” is one note higher than pitched note. Tun is a resonant stroke of the right hand. The head is not muted at all but allowed to resonate freely. The head is struck in the center of the syahi with the index finger of the right hand.The Tabla-dayan is not the only drum with a pitch: the bayan also has a pitch. Tabla Player apply pressure on the left drum Membrane to Produce different -different slides and pitches whereas Right Drum produce resonant and non-resonant strokes. So basic Sounds can be produced from left drum , right drum and combo drums.

    Swarmandal KONTAKT

    SYNTHiC4TE | 01 January 2016 | 1.50 GB

    The name Swarmandal combines swara (notes) and mandal (group) , which represents the ability to produce a group of notes. This instrument is used as an accompanying instrument for vocal Hindustani classical music. It is also known by the name of Sur-mandal. The Beatles’ 1967 single “Strawberry Fields Forever” features a swarmandal, played by George Harrison, as does “Within You Without You”, from the band’s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. With this library you can map your own raga phrase in mapping zone to create a swarmandal effect and also use the playing range to play your melody. 30 Raga Presets are included within the library along with quick basic notes on each raga . The library was recorded with plectrum and thumb , all the strings were plucked in specific way which is very similar to “Sarod” plucking style creating a rounded stable sound. Overall instrument sounds really emotional due to the careful plucking style.

    .::: Traditional North Indian Instruments :::.

    Exploring the classical and folk sounds of Northern India, ‘North Indian Folk’ is full of traditional instruments such as woodwind in the form of a haunting Bansuri, or bamboo flute; drums such as the Dholki, Dholak, Tabla and Kanjira; strings from a beautiful sitar and elegant tanpura; organ sounds from the vaja, a type of harmonium; finally traditional Indian male and female vocals to top it all off! The sounds in this pack are largely based on raga and have then been improvised live, giving an authentic edge to each sound.
