Next up, Larry explores the subjects of transients, demonstrating how to increase a track’s punch, followed by the use of gating to clean up headphone bleed on a vocal. You’ll then see how to affect stereo width and shape transients in mid/side mode, which helps create separation between different instruments and effects in the mix.

Using Bitwig’s powerful modulators and Polygrid functions, we create seemingly complex patches and pleasing synth sound designs. Once we throw them into huge reverbs and delays, the outcome is mind-blowing! Although these tips showcase Bitwig’s capabilities, if you have access to LFOs, many of the ideas generated here can be replicated across different DAWs. This week we proudly welcome back Sensho as he creates a track from start to finish in the style of Disclosure! Starting with a template set at 124bpm, Sensho first builds a classic Disclosure-style groove before diving into some epic sound design on both the main synth and bass. We look at some complex chord structures, live automation, background effects, and a cool parallel harmony technique before tackling the arrangement and transitions.
The final result is a smooth house track that captures many of Disclosure’s signature sounds.
