It was performed by drummer Skye Polson of two-time JUNO Award-winning Canadian group Digging Roots. “I have a swampy, laid-back feel to my style and generally approach playing with pocket and groove in mind first and foremost. My background is mostly in the blues, so I do love to play a good shuffle as well,” Skye says. Expect an eclectic mix of material that touches on a wealth of styles but converge in exactly those two fundamental components: pocket and groove. In the wake of the pioneering acts that took the melodic expression and harmonic language of classic folk music and applied it in a rock band setting, waves of new artists came out in the 1960s and on. Since then, the lines between folk, singer-songwriter, indie and Americana have kept blurring, but still – with its basic, to-the-point hooks and unmistakable harmonies – that ever-so distinct folk feel is still as apparent as it ever was. In this EZkeys MIDI pack, we’ve dug deep through the archives to come up with inspiration for a collection of material that doesn’t only cover the singer-songwriter- and Americana-related but also the Irish and the Celtic. Nordic Folk Strings KONTAKT

Nordic Folk Strings is a Kontakt library based on tagelharpa, the traditional three-strings instrument from Scandinavia. It’s a collaborative project with singer and tagelharpa expert Alessandra Cognetta (Omen, Hellen), who has recorded the whole source material. Nordic Folk Strings features 2 models of tagelharpa, Bass Tagelharpa and Standard Tagelharpa. The former features a darker, lower sound whereas the latter presents a more typically Vikingreminiscent tone. Both have been sampled at different time ranges, with different kind of rhythms (straight and triplets) , different tunings and tones. Rather than sampling long sustained notes, in Nordic Folk Strings we have sampled rhythmic movements, in order to preserve the raw authenticity of the tagelharpa. The movements loops are tempo synched to the DAW and can be combined creatively by using our custom scripted Rhythmic Legato and the innovative Movements Sequencer.
