Cabinet and Speaker Type: The 412 RECT Essentials wave audio format impulse response library is based on measurement data from and seeking to recreate the sound of a MESA/Boogie® Rectifier® Standard (Oversized) 4×12 closed back cabinet loaded with 2003 Celestion® T4335 Vintage 30 speakers. This particular combination – largely the result of the unique tonality for this narrow space in time of this speaker model’s production – results in a sound that is full yet tight in the lows, authoritative and forward in the mids, and smooth on top, with just enough bite to cut through a dense modern mix when paired with the right mic/mix selection. The lack of overly whomping low end and harsh high end makes this file set incredibly versatile, and useful for a multitude of styles and applications.

A first year production specimen, this cabinet and speaker combination exudes a weighty and dense low mid with an upper mid cut that rips and shreds, embodying the later years tone of its namesake. It could best be described as the guitar tone equivalent of analog tape: tight, thick, punchy, round, forward, and smooth all at the same time. From 80’s rock to modern metal, this library presents a sound that is sonically unique, emotionally familiar, and an indispensable tone for the toolbox.

The Classic Rock Essentials wave audio format impulse response library is based on a vintage British 4×12 cabinet loaded with greenbacks and captured in such a way as to channel the vibe of rock guitar cabinet tones from the late 1960’s through early 1980’s. Back in the golden age of analog recording, most albums were cut with the band all playing in the same room at the same time, tracked through a mixing console to analog tape. This led to the bleeding of instruments between mics, and so far as the guitar tones were concerned produced a less direct sound than what became common place after the digital revolution, where most instruments are tracked individually and in total isolation. This library embraces that classic spirit of yesteryear, allowing the smooth, smokey, vintage sounding guitar tones to breathe more, and let more of the room into the sound for every capture. In contrast to the past, however, this IR library ensures that all sound sources captured are time and phase aligned, preventing the slap-back delay type of effect that can be heard on those old recordings. The result is the marriage of old and new, living harmoniously in peace, man!
