Handy tip – layer up the static sustained notes with a staccato articulation, delay the static track by 50-100ms and allow the classic Shakuhachi articulations to shine through and add character! Choose from a number of articulations and play around with the pitch to get monstrous sounding organs and pads! The Bamboo Xaxophone is a sort of odd saxophone obtained out of… bamboo! Originally built in Hawai, the bamboo sax is a chromatic single reed instruments that looks like a Duduk or a straight Chinese flute. Its mellow and warm tone could be mistaken as an intriguing mix of clarinet and saxophone, whereas in the upper range the bamboo saxophone emerges for its strong but balanced shrill timbre. For the occasion we thought that “Xaxophone” could be the right name to distinguish it from its metallic relative!

Luo Tianyi (洛天依) is a Chinese VOCALOID formerly developed by Bplats, Inc. under the YAMAHA Corporation, and was created in collaboration with Shanghai HENIAN. She was the grand winning entry of the “VOCALOID™ CHINA” contest which was held for choosing the design of the first Chinese VOCALOID. Tianyi was released in July 2012 for the VOCALOID3 engine. She was updated to the VOCALOID4 engine in December 2017 and was developed and distributed by Shanghai HENIAN. it was announced that Tianyi’s V4 package would be set for pre-order beginning on October 1 and that a sale would run from October 1 to October 31. It was confirmed that her V4 update would have two voicebanks: “Méng” (萌; English: Normal; literally “cute” or “moe”) and “Níng” (凝; English: Power; literally: “solid”, “cohesion”, or “gathering strength”).

The Mongolian Vibe from the Steppes MaTouQin (horse-headed fiddle, aka morin khuur), as one of the precious legacies of the Mongolian people, has been heartily embraced by Chinese musicians today as a vital musical element. Its unique sound character complements other classical Chinese instruments in a way like no others. MaTouQin is believed to be originated from the nomadic people during the Tang Dynasty (7th – 10th centuries), and became widely known circa Genghis Khan’s reign. Nowadays, like many other Mongolian legacies, Matouqin has become a valuable part of Chinese culture. Besides the horse-headed pegbox, MaTouQin is very recognizable for its unusual playing techniques and styles. Our production approached MaTouQin in pursuit of the indigenous flavour instead of the more Westernized style, and by delivering that flavour, all the composers and musicians now have a chance to explore and express in the most authentic and original Mongolian flavour easily.
