Polite 800 introduces another famous eighties synthesizer: the Korg Poly 800. This little leight-weight plastic thing was meant to be a performance synthesizer because it can run on batteries, has guitar strap pegs and inverted key colors. On the other hand programming this thing isn´t really a performance because like the majority of the budget synths of this time the Poly 800 has to be conquered with nothing more than a number block plus an increase and decrease button. The Universal Pack contains 32 multi-sample patches that load into numerous software samplers like Kontakt (NI), NN-XT (Reason). EXS 24 (Logic), Directwave (IL) as well as each other software sampler that supports the Cakewalk sfz format.
A really rotten upright piano, totally out of tune, with all the keys disappeared. But the chassis was still complete and made such a fantastic reverb, it seemed to be everlasting. Slapping the lowest string it took almost three minutes until the sound had gone. With Volume 1 you get the original piano sound picked up at two distances plus five other sound sets using different prepared piano techniques. The audio demos are made without additional reverb.
Since 2009, when the recording sessions for Volume 1 & 2 took place, the piano was exposed to weather nearly unprotected. The black laquer got brittle, the strings are covered with rust and dirt. Nevertheless, these piano remains still emit a wonderfull and reverberant sound that is definitely worth capturing. The sounds for Rolfing 3 were recorded chromatically, with an advanced setup of acoustic stereo mics and two pairs of piezo pickups. All samples have been meticulously edited by hand to form a comprehensive palette of versatile Instrument Racks. Inspired by the acoustic field surroundings during the nightly recording sessions a set of independently adjustable nature ambiences is included in the Instrument Racks. They are tightly integrated into the Rack structure and have convenient Macro assignments. Additionaly, all ambience sounds are contained as separate clips to use in different context if desired.
Binaries is a collection of FM sounds that where captured from a 90ies ISA soundcard. Almost every soundcard of this time contained an OPL3 chip that was capable of producing 4-Operator FM sounds from 8 different waveforms and several tricky algorithms. According to these becnhmarks Binaries delivers a stunning collection of classical FM patches like Rhodes, Clavinet, Bells and Basses but also delivers several non-classified sound design patches. Each patch in the library is made of several velocity layers that reproduce the authentic sound of this time as it was heard in hundreds of computer games. Sampled from the soundboard´s noisy 16bit output all sounds introduce an unique mixture of pristine FM clarity and dusty digital to analog conversion.
Composite Keys features sounds from the WSA1, the one and only synthesizer ever made by a world-famous turntable manufacturer. With its coolish and digital acoustic modeling sound the WSA1 didn´t make it to everyone´s heart so today it definately has found its place in the Top 10 of the most underrated synthesizers ever. The Live Pack includes 20 full-blown Instrument Racks with velocity-layered stereo samples. The samples also contain a proper portion of the WSA1´s internal effect engine and thus provide a realistic feel and sound of this lovely piece of vintage gear.
