In this course, author Scott Hirsch shows how to get started with Studio One 3, beginning with the Start page and device setup. He then shows how to start recording a new song with templates and Studio One’s built-in loops. Next, Scott moves into editing and arranging audio and MIDI, explaining important techniques like quantizing MIDI and creating multi-instruments. He then covers automating and mixing in the console, and using Studio One’s mastering and digital publishing tools to share your tracks with the world.

Synferno is a cinematic Sound Module containing 300 different kits that can be played in tandem across 4 categories (Bass, Synth, Ambient and Groove) The 300 Kits can be loaded by dragging and dropping the separate *.NKI files or by using the snapshot function. Loops can be played polyphonically timestretched within a range of two octaves (24 semitones). Each part has it´s own color-coded range on the keyboard. You can alternatively play the loops sliced using the “SLICE” button in the SEQ page. There are special MIDI trigger keys/notes that enable you to turn on/off the FX per part, retrigger a currently playing slice (when sequencer is turned on) and to trigger a volume (“trancegate”) per part.

We are proud, and a little bit spooked, to present the VHS Crosstalk Sound Pack. Experience a variety of bleeding, interfering and harrowingly magnetic sounds from the VHS era. All samples were processed and mastered on 1/2-inch magnetic tape using home VHS recorder equipment. VHS Crosstalk contains a selection of samples, optimized for use on the Analog Rytm (though the samples will also work on an Octatrack or a Machinedrum UW). The bundle also includes a custom Analog Rytm project featuring patterns, kits and live-friendly scene and performance macros.

AFRICAN BALAFON WITH SNARES

RECORDING THE BALAFON: French musician Jean-Philippe Rykiel contacted us about a unique type of African balafon in which each key had “snares” that vibrated when played, giving it a interesting buzzing quality. Sometimes called a “gyil”(JEE-le), it’s usually found in parts of northern Ghana, Burkina Faso, and south-eastern Mali. Hardwood keys are suspended over calabash gourds. Silk or paper covers small holes in the gourds which resonates to produce the characteristic buzzing. Rykiel has long been involved with West African musicians, having collaborated with both the wonderful Salif Keita and Youssou N’Dour. For the balafon however, he knew of a virtuoso player from Burkina Faso named Mamadou Diabate now living in Austria. He enlisted Mamadou to play the instrument for a recording session that he would conduct himself. The recordings then made their way to us, and the result is the instrument you find here. We hope you’ll find this instrument both curious and inspirational!
