75 unique synth bass tones for anything from pop and electronic to ambient soundscapes. Rooted in some of the most influential vintage and modern synths, but remixed, heavily saturated and textured – this expansion for EZbass presents a collection of bass tones unlike anything you’ve ever heard. If you’re looking for an EBX where mint organic vintage vibes come head to head with cutting edge sound design, this is your new go-to. For this EBX, six carefully selected hardware synth instruments were sampled as a foundation. From there, the design team added sonic layers of field recording noise, modular synthesis, granular module tones, foley and various other ambiences to create richly textured and multilayered bass tones. After that, all sounds were individually processed, saturated and patched through vintage hardware compressors, EQs and tube outboard for further organic warmth, grit and boost. The result? A patchwork of 75 hybrid synth bass sounds that covers the entire range from tight, plucky, clean and pristine to the thunderously drone-like ambient, dirty, distorted and aggressive.
Shimmering in blinding neon pastels, the ’80s was an era when technology forced its way to the forefront and got its first permanent foothold in mainstream music culture. It was a time when acoustic and electronic merged to form all-together new sounds, musical expressions and even genres. In all of this, the bass of course played a tremendous part – not least in the shape of the surging use of the synth filling its traditional role. For this MIDI pack, we turned to its sibling for EZkeys and used it as a foundation to create the perfect complement for EZbass. Expect a wealth of ballad-esque basslines that perfectly capture the spirit of the time but that you can doctor for use in any thinkable style or scenario.
Although the bell bottom pants and jumpsuit days are long gone, disco is just as alive and well today as it was some 40 odd years ago – it just changed venues. Have a listen to Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake or Madonna – to name a few – and you’ll know. The ultimate electric bass, MIDI and presets for retro to modern disco! If there was a time when the bass truly stepped out of the shadow of the drums and took center stage, it was during the golden days of disco. Even though the jumpsuits, platform shoes and flared pants may be a thing of that 1970s era, disco has never been more now than it was back then. It may have taken on more of a pop suit, but listen to the likes of Dua Lipa, Daft Punk or Bruno Mars and you’ll hear it. In the forefront of that sound is a classic bass belting out a juicy double-note-infused and octave-ridden disco groove. For this EBX, we went out of our way to find the ultimate instrument that could bridge that gap between classic and modern – one that had all the vintage traits but also enough girth to stand its ground in a modern pop production. We found it. At that, it’s not just any bass, it’s one of the 356 ever built Hagström* Super Swedes. Co-designed by the late Rutger Gunnarsson of ABBA fame, this is a bona fide disco bass icon just like the very man who once played it.
In this collection of EZbass MIDI, we return to the heartland of American songwriting tradition to offer complementing basslines to the Americana EZkeys MIDI pack. In Americana, it’s all about painting the bigger picture and getting the story across without overplaying or overdoing. If classic acts like The Band, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan or contemporaries like Ryan Adams and First Aid Kit strike a note with your creative nerve, this is your jam. Expect basic and to-the-point bass grooves that manage the balancing act of combining melody, harmony and rhythm without ever getting in the way of what matters the most in any facet of the genre: the song. Get ready for an amalgam of folk, gospel, blues, soul, country, jazz and rock grooves that will work seamlessly in anything from acoustic to full-on electric instrumentations. Bass, presets and MIDI – tailored for that classic 1960s vintage sound. This expansion for EZbass sets out to capture one of the most iconic and defining epochs in popular music history: the sixties. It includes the vibe, the sound and the very bass model whose characteristically tubby, dark and earthy thud played a leading role in its soundtrack. Arguably, no other instrument paints a more vividly compelling image of an era come and gone than this – sonically and visually. The bass was strung with classic flatwound strings and captured using two distinctly different playing styles, one using the finger and one palm muted using a pick. This gives you two contrasting takes on the same instrument and a tonal range covering the entire width from the traditionally thud-like to the sharp and zingy. In addition to the bass, this EBX also includes a wealth of presets for a wide range of tones as well as a custom library of MIDI basslines tailored for the instrument and the era in question.
