Overdriven cassette tape effects. Compression, distortion- saturation. Six unique effects. 3 of them used additional processing and hardware to add to the tape effect. 3 of them were sampled in stereo. All 6 were sampled and are presented as ‘compressor style’ programs, with thresh, attack, and release controls. To give the effects more versatility, additional attack/release behaviors were taken from actual compressors and melded with these effects. The additional attack/release times allow these programs to be used like compressor programs to some degree, but they also allow you to shape the saturation/distortion effect. It’s like a hybrid of a saturated tape sound with compressor controls, and the tape is cassette so there is definitely a lo-fi sound.

This is an independent mono sampling of the famous compressor ubiquitous on so many 60s and later albums. 14 transformers and 20 tubes make this a beast of a compressor. It is almost impossible to buy nowadays – unless you have a cool $ 50 000 lying around. Stories abound of old studios literally dumping them in skips when solid state became popular. Many replicas exist but this is a sampling of the real deal. Mostly very subtle samplings of one of the few remaining original and well maintained versions of this piece of audio recording history. Own it now and possess that sound in the box. N.B – I have not sampled this as a compressor but a PRE for it’s sonic signature.

This package made me quite emotional when I first set it up and heard it for the first time. It has a lovely warmth that screams tubes all over it. If you want a vocal, pianos, a mix or anything to sound smoother warmer and more musical in the mid range this guy just makes music PERIOD. I kind of felt deflated when I pressed the bypass mode.

Please note that these require a fully licensed Nebula Pro license to enjoy. This sampling was a little tricky but you can get useable results. There is some funky stuff that happens in the high end on the mojo modes so perhaps the engine wasn’t really truly bypassed. Anyway adds a sense of dimension to synths and strings when used in a send. Use with your favourite VST emulation in parallel.
