The Funkmasters EZX was recorded in Nashville’s renowned Sound Kitchen Studios and captures the legacy of two of the most innovative, inspiring and influential instrumentalists of our time. Meet the principal drummers in James Brown’s band: Clyde Stubblefield and John “Jabo” Starks. Fans and critics cite the collective era of these two drummers, who often played in tandem, as the pinnacle of funk music. Samples and looped audio of their original beats would go on to become the foundation of hip hop, their grooves gave birth to countless genres and the use of their breaks inspired innovation within the techniques of DJ-ing. Sounds, presets and MIDI, tailored for industrial rock and metal, dark electronic music and cinematic soundscapes. In this EKX for EZkeys 2, the absolute contraries of the audio scope come head to head in a full-circle library of sounds covering the entire range from industrial rock and metal to dark electronic music and cinematic soundscapes. The sounds were based around a broad pool of electronic instruments and analog synths paired with an acoustic piano and an organ. The individual components were then processed using pitch modulation, granular effects, distortion, compression, amps and outboard to create sounds with an inherently dark, gritty and raw aura. Finally, these instruments were combined to create never-before-heard hybrids of sound represented in a total of 82 presets distributed over five distinct categories: Keys, Pads, Leads & Basses and Textures. Expect an all-encompassing collection of hauntingly bent, skewed, convulsing and phasing sounds covering anything from earthmoving drones and basses to ethereal pads and piercing leads.

Featuring five carefully captured kits, each handpicked for their unique tonal qualities, paired with Will Putney’s raw but still sonically immaculate production style, this EZX paints a unique document of hard-hitting, aggressive-sounding drums with a tangible edge, nerve and energy. In addition to the kits and the large assortment of cymbals, extra kicks and snares, the Modern Metal EZX also includes a comprehensive library of presets as well as a selection of MIDI grooves and fills designed for anything from heavy rock to death metal, hardcore and progressive metal. Shimmering in blinding neon pastels, the ’80s was an era when technology forced its way to the forefront and got its first permanent foothold in mainstream music culture. It was a time when acoustic and electronic merged to form all-together new sounds, musical expressions and even genres. In all of this, the bass of course played a tremendous part – not least in the shape of the surging use of the synth filling its traditional role. For this MIDI pack, we turned to its sibling for EZkeys and used it as a foundation to create the perfect complement for EZbass. Expect a wealth of ballad-esque basslines that perfectly capture the spirit of the time but that you can doctor for use in any thinkable style or scenario.

The Rock Foundry SDX was recorded at Bob Rock’s choice studio The Warehouse in Vancouver, BC, and designed to give you the most flexible selection of drums, ambiences and options possible. It’s configured as two individual SDXs, one ‘Main’ and one ‘Mono.’ The ‘Main’ features six kits captured with a traditional multiple microphone technology whereas the ‘Mono’ configuration was recorded using a minimal setup. In addition to the seven individual kits, a large selection of extra snares, kicks and cymbals are provided, making The Rock Foundry SDX an incredibly broad palette of raw material to use to craft drum mixes within the powerful framework of Superior Drummer 3.
