The included drums possess 6-ply Keller Maple shells with an additional ply of Sapeli Pommele running vertically resulting in focused low-end. The finish is hand-applied tung oil which offers a very open tone. The package also includes a bonus Ludwig snare taken from BFD Jazz & Funk Collection. BFD JEX is recorded in the same room and studio conditions as the BFD Jazz & Funk and BFD Percussion expansions as well as those used for the Mapleworks kits in BFD3.

The sounds feature diverse mic channel sets and beater types for versatility. The medium-sized recording room used on BFD Imperial Drums allows naturally warm ambience and direct mic signals with superb isolation. Many included instruments provide alternative ambient and direct mic sets for increased variety. Finally, 13 stick and beater types including hot-rods, webs, rutes and jazz brushes were used to play the instruments. The included drums, cymbals and hihats are expertly set up and tuned by experienced session drummer Elio Rivagli.
