We all love the original Disco era, influenced by many and sampled 1000’s of times. So what is it about the Disco sound that makes it so enticing ? For us at would have to mean a fat low end from the kick but with a little hi end bite to cut through the four to the floor groove, a warm and rich snare to keep that beat focused that of course tonally mixes with a clap just perfect. BFD 8 Bit Kit is an expansion pack for FXpansion’s BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2 with dozens of esoteric, vintage and modified drums, percussion and beatboxes – all prepared and tuned in unique ways before being captured by a strange and wonderful array of microphones (in full 24-bit 44.1kHz quality!). 8 Bit Kit is the brainchild of S. Husky Hoskulds whose 8 Bit Audio production company has produced recordings for Tom Waits, Fantômas, Joe Henry, The Wallflowers and many more. The philosophy behind 8 Bit Kit is to deliver fascinating and different sounds: kicks detuned and hit with paint rollers or with chains attached; modified snares with calf-skin or kevlar heads fitted; unique cracked and warped hihats. Other highlights include bongos, hand drums, tambourines, claps and junk percussion alongside vintage analogue drum machines recorded both dry and played out over a custom PA rig in the drum room – these sound great layered with other drums or naked in your mix.

BFD Sleishman Snares is an expansion for BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2 with 4 premium Sleishman free-floating snare drums. Sleishman’s system of suspending the drum shell without any physical contact with lugs and other hardware with a patented tuning system keeping both heads precisely in tune results in unique sound, sustain and purity of tone. BFD Sleishman Snares includes a 14″ maple shell snare (played with rods and sticks), a 10″ maple piccolo (sticks only), a 13″ rosegum snare (brushes and sticks) and a 14″ blue acrylic (sticks only). Some snares feature additional articulations when used with BFD3 and BFD2.

BFD Vintage Recording Techniques is an expansion pack for BFD3 that uses a variety of vintage microphone techniques to capture a beautiful Ludwig Classic Maple drum kit. The result is a selection of familiar, authentic vintage sounds suitable for rock, pop, blues and more. Our engineers used world renowned drum recording techniques including ORTF, Glyn Johns, and Blumlein. Direct microphones were expertly placed on all kit pieces to ensure the pack has a wide range of mixing possibilities and can deliver authentic drum sounds from vintage to modern.

BFD Oak Custom is an expansion pack featuring a stunning Yamaha oak drumkit for your BFD3, BFD Eco or BFD2 installation. BFD Oak Custom’s toms are played with sticks, mallets and hotrods for extra versatility and the kick is played with 2 beater types. The sounds are full of body and devastating low end and also include a reduced-detail Yamaha bamboo snare from BFD Signature Snares Vol.1 and even bonus samples of the original Yamaha drum cases being struck. BFD Oak Custom is recorded in similar studio conditions to BFD Percussion, other FXpansion Yamaha-based expansions such as BFD Jazz Maple and the Mapleworks kits in BFD3.
